I am happy with the final film that we produced and i think that it portrays the world of acid house in a way that doesn't put it in a bad light but tells the whole story. The biggest strength of our film is the found footage that we have is strong and allows us to break up what would have been just talking heads. I think the biggest strength of our film is the contributors, having the Donnelley brothers tell us their story right after they released their book as they were influential players in the acid house scene meaning that we couldn't have got anyone better. There are some weaknesses with our project and the main one is the sound, we didn't have anyone to take on the role of sound there are times when the music comes in and out in the wrong place and some levels are are off. if we were to put this out anywhere this would be something i would change. Another weakness of our piece is that we went round and filmed a lot of places around manchester that were of significance to the their lives and the partying around Manchester at the time and they were not put into the final piece.
Making this documentary has been hard and that was at the beginning our own fault as we never really had a solid idea what we could do that we all liked the sound of. This was then made more difficult by the fact two of the group ended up in hospital postponing the work more. After hitting the luck gaining access to the brothers our work could really begin. I wanted to be and became the cinematographer as i was doing this in my other module and also i had never had the opportunity to do it before. I wanted to use this as a chance to use the new camera that stores have the cannon 305. The plan was to make this documentary look nice and also not keep to the conventional shots found in a documentary, I think that the shooting went really well there was no major problems during the day. I shot the interview with chris wide as i like the background and felt like it showed his persona, I still think that i would do this shot again but rather than having the other camera close have that as the more conventional shot so we could alternate between them. I have learnt a lot from this process especially about setting up the camera quick to catch things and also to keep the camera rolling nearly all the time as this catches bits that you would never had of gotten.
I had a strong individual contribution in this project right from the begging of this project keeping everyone on track with trying to come up with ideas and push forward the ideas that we did have . I wen to every group meeting and also even went to some of the edit days and helped with the poetic documentary, The biggest problem was obviously two of the group going to hospital and setting us back but getting the extension solved that problem.
Overall i am really happy with the final piece that we created and with a few tweaks would like to put it into some student film festivals although getting permission from the Donnelley's would be difficult.
